Astrophotography Gallery > Planets & Moons

While most of the objects we look at are very distant, our local system of planets, the Solar System, contains many objects worth photographing. We have our own sun, Sol, our moon, Luna, eight other planets (yes, I count Pluto) and their moons, and the occasional comet. Four of those planets (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) are easily visible to the naked eye when they show themselves in the night sky. Their brighter moons, as well as the other planets, are visible to telescope observers, and a surprising amount of detail is visible provided observing conditions are adequate.
